2 month Postpartum Reflection and Review
It's been about 2 months since I gave birth and I thought I'd do a bit of a reflection and review of biking through out my pregnancy and my postpartum recovery.
Final days of Biking during Pregnancy

My last post was from my 36th week and I actually ended up biking up until my 38th week of pregnancy. I probably would have kept going til I delivered but I was having some pubic bone pain that's common during pregnancy so it was getting too hard for me to safely lift my leg and hop on the bike. I was also getting pretty slow by the end but I still preferred cycling to walking which was uncomfortable in other ways. Alas, the walking was mandated by the doctors so I had to keep doing it.
If I did get pregnant again, I would totally continue to bike while pregnant since it was a pretty good way to get around and more comfortable than walking.
Overall I had a very uneventful pregnancy and very quick delivery (active labour was less than an hour) and I think being fit and cycle committing definitely contributed to that.
Postpartum Recovery and Getting Back on the Saddle
While my delivery was quick, I did have a bit of a tear, which is also unfortunately pretty common. It's taken 6 weeks to heal but I finally feel good enough to ride again. Again, being fit while pregnant has helped with my postpartum recovery as I retained some strength from before which has been useful for nursing and caring for my baby.
My first bike ride postpartum was actually on a bike share bike since I had missed the streetcar and was going to be late for an appointment. Ah, necessity once again being the main motivation for my desire to bike. The ride was short, and uneventful - just the way I like it😌.
Future Family Biking Plans?

Our lil bub is slowly but surely gaining neck strength. The plan is that once he can safely hold up his head, we will start taking him in the Urban Arrow to the grocery store with us. For now my partner is not comfortable with the idea yet so we will wait a bit longer. I'm hoping to bring him to Biidaasige park before the summer is over and do some stroller walking while there. I'm going to grab the bakkie bag first so we can do use the Urban Arrow to transport him and the stroller. But the future is looking bright now that I'm more recovered from birth.
