Unexpected Things from Becoming a Parent

I will start with parenting and postpartum is not easy and different for everyone. But this list were things that genuinely surprised me, mostly for the better.

Your child is a joy and light to not just you and your partner but to those around you and even to strangers - seriously I get strangers congratulating me at the grocery store and when people ask me how old my kid is, they remember fondly their own child at that age and it brings a smile to their face. In my own family, I've seen a lot of joy and love and positive changes - for some who have been stuck in a rut for a long time and it’s nice.
You will need to drink so much water if you are breastfeeding. I knew being thirsty is a common side effect but I'm drinking close to 4L a day and it feels barely enough
Having been really independent my whole life, I thought I would be annoyed at having my kid with me at all times. Instead, I love bringing him to places and trying to show him the world. He's super young and sleepy so this will probably change but I'm constantly thinking of new things to do with him
Postpartum recovery is so much harder than pregnancy. This is probably a me problem but having had a relatively easy pregnancy, recovering postpartum has been so much harder than I thought. Your body is so weak after making a human (s) and an organ(the placenta) and wanting to repair itself while sleep deprived is no joke.
Being more flexible, going with the flow and letting small things go- I've always struggled with this one but with a baby, you can plan all you want but baby will do baby things. The other day while washing his butt in the bathroom sink after a poop diaper change, he also peed all over our toothbrushes. Ew but also we needed to change the brush heads anyways so I guess this is the kick in the butt we needed lol.
No matter how much you love your kid while pregnant, you will love them so much more when they are earth side.
